Introduction
The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE), commonly referred to as the Maharashtra State Board, plays a pivotal role in shaping the educational landscape of the state. Established under the Maharashtra Secondary Boards Act in 1965, this educational board holds the responsibility of regulating and supervising the secondary and higher secondary education system in the state of Maharashtra, India. In early 2023, the Maharashtra State Board announced a new policy for Std. 8 and Std. 5 students. In this blog, we will deep dive into the new policy and understand what the new policy means for the students.
The Old Policy
The Maharashtra State Board is known to make education the simplest for the students. Carrying this thought, the Board would ensure that all the students are compulsorily promoted to the next class till Std. 8. During these years, the students would be taught various subjects from History-Geography to Math-Science along with providing exposure to sports, art and edutainment activities. By compulsorily promoting the students, the Board focused on various other elements of education other than exams.
The New Policy
The world is getting more and more competitive by the day. Trends are changing and so are the demand for finely educated professionals in the industry who can add value to the organization they are working in. Keeping up with this trend, in order to make their teaching methodology in line with the requirement of the world and make students ready, the Maharashtra State Board came up with a new policy.
What is the new policy?
Under the Right To Education(RTE) Act, holding back any child till Std. 8 was stopped. Implementing the new policy, the State Board has decided to conduct compulsory annual exams for Std. 8 and Std. 5 students.
What if a child fails in these annual exams?
In case a child fails in the annual exams, he/she will be provided supplementary guidance for those particular subjects and will be given a chance to reappear for the papers 2 months after the results of the annual exams are out. If the child fails in this exam as well, they will be held back and will have to repeat the year.
What is the reason for this policy change?
Std. 8 provides a base for Std. 9 and 10. When students don’t do well in their Std. 8, they usually have a hard time clearing their Std. 9 and 10. With an aim to change this and make the base strong for the students, the Maharashtra State Board decided to implement this much-needed change in the education policy.
Next Steps
The most ideal thing to do in this scenario is to enroll in a reputed coaching institute that provides good quality education to its students along with their schooling. The objective is not to bombard the child with studying but to help them navigate through the subjects effectively.
Understanding the Importance of Coaching Classes
Coaching classes serve as supplementary education centers that focus on enhancing students’ understanding of academic subjects. They provide a structured approach to learning, tailored to meet the requirements of specific state board exams. However, not all coaching classes are created equal, and choosing the right one requires careful consideration.
How To Choose A Good Coaching Class?
With the multitude of options available, choosing the right coaching class can be a crucial decision. Here are some things that you should look for in a coaching class.
Identifying Your Goals and Needs
Before you start your search, define your goals and needs. Are you looking for assistance in a particular subject or a comprehensive coaching program? Understand whether you need short-term revision or a long-term course.
Researching Coaching Class Reputation
Research the reputation of coaching classes in your area. Seek recommendations from friends, family, teachers, and online forums. Look for institutes with a track record of producing successful students.
Assessing Faculty Qualifications
The quality of faculty is a key factor. Experienced and qualified teachers can make complex concepts easier to understand. Check the credentials of the teaching staff, their teaching experience, and their familiarity with state board syllabi.
Exploring Teaching Methodologies
Different coaching classes adopt different teaching methodologies. Some focus on rote learning, while others encourage conceptual understanding. Choose a class that aligns with your learning style.
Batch Size and Individual Attention
Opt for coaching classes with manageable batch sizes. Smaller batches ensure that each student receives individual attention and can clear doubts effectively.
Comprehensive Study Material
Quality study material is essential for effective preparation. Coaching classes should provide well-structured notes, practice papers, and mock tests.
Track Record of Results
Review the past results of the coaching class. The percentage of students who have successfully cleared state board exams is a strong indicator of the institute’s effectiveness.
Location Convenience
An institute located near your home or school can save travel time and ensure you’re punctual for classes.
